Obituary for John B. "Bill" Shaffer

John B. "Bill"  Shaffer
John B. (Bill) Shaffer, 85, of Weston passed away on October 19, 2017 in Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital of Weston following a brief illness. He was born September 1, 1932: son of the late John Shaffer and Pearl (Simpson) Shaffer Clemens.
Mr. Shaffer is survived by three children: Penny Eagle of Copley, John M. Shaffer and wife Shirley and Spring Franklin and husband Mike of Shadybrook. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son: Ronnie Shaffer, one brother: Bernard Lovett, one sister: Rose Mary Welch and one step sister: Ethel Clemens. He is also survived by one brother-in-law: Coy Welch of Buckhannon and five grandchildren: Rebecca Eagle of Copley, John Matthew Shaffer, II, Lindsay Hughes, Brianna Franklin and Kami Franklin of Shadybrook. Also surviving is one dear cousin whom he considered a sister: Rena Belle Bee.
Mr. Shaffer worked many years at Weston Laundry, WV Glass Specialty Company, Colonial Glass and then for the final 19 years of his employment, he spent at the Lewis County Board of Education as a custodian at Alum Bridge and Shadybrook Elementary Schools which were his favorite, by far. He loved the kids and they loved him.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, football and attending his grandchildren’s sporting events; but most of all he enjoyed his family.
Family and friends will be received at the Hardman-Paletti Funeral Home 730 N. Main Avenue Weston on Sunday, October 22, 2017 from 4-7 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Monday at 1:00 p.m. from the Hardman-Paletti Funeral Home chapel with Pastor Dan Vaughn officiating. Interment will follow services in the Peterson Cemetery of Weston, WV. On-line condolences and life stories in memory of Bill may be expressed at hardman-palettifuneralhome.com.
