Obituary

Harry Roger Allman, 70, of Horner was born November 28, 1948 in Weston, WV: a son of the late Harry C. and Winifred Stalnaker Allman. He ended his earthly journey on October 10, 2019 in the comfort of his home following a brief illness.

He is survived by his wife Linda Kennedy whom he married on October 7, 1997, two brothers: William and wife Vicki Allman of Aiken, SC and Darrell and wife Beth Allman of Weston; one daughter: Sara Comstock and husband Joe of Hartford, AK; one granddaughter: Keiran Rogers and husband Jeremy; one great grandson: Braydon Rogers of Huntington, AR. He is also survived by stepchildren: Stephanie and husband Troy Gray of Lakemore, OH and Robert Rinehart of Allen, TX.

Roger graduated from Eastern High School in 1967. He enlisted in the Marine Corp and served in Vietnam. He was honorably discharged in 1968. Roger was employed as an iron worker with Iron Worker Local 787 of Parkersburg, WV, a welder in the coal mine and retired from Weyerhauser in the maintenance department. He was a member of the VFW Post 3663 in Buckhannon, Elkins Marine Corp League and the Lewis County Honor Guard.

Roger was a fan of the Cleveland Browns and WVU Football teams. His hobbies included golf, hunting and firearms competitions. He participated in the National Rifle Matches at Camp Perry OH for many years and enjoyed volunteering for the Civilian Marksmanship program in his retirement. Family, friends and co-workers will miss the practical jokes and tall tales he will be remembered for.

Roger’s wishes for cremation have been honored and Celebration of Life Services will be held on Friday, October 18, 2019 at 11:45 a.m. from the Hardman-Paletti Funeral Home 730 N. Main Avenue Weston. Harry (Roger) wanted to shoot his old 1903A4 rifle (WW1/WW2 era bolt action rifle with a little scope) in the 'Sniper Match' at the CMP national rifle matches this last summer . I was honored to be his partner, helping spot his shots. He was so excited. We were buying more ammunition and getting ready to sight in his rifle at the practice range for the longer distance targets before the match. Harry was always cracking jokes and had a smile. He will be missed. This picture is the T shirt we would have received for shooting in the sniper match. Semper Fi Harry. Bruce Tillotson

Roger and I met through the civilian marksmanship program volunteering for the CMP games and NRA national matches at Camp Perry Ohio. We worked in the rifle pits on Viale range and also competed together in the Vintage Sniper Team Matches. Roger was a great friend and I only wish we could have known each other longer. Rest in peace my friend and hopefully we will meet again somewhere.
